CS 22.481  Tail-down landing conditions

ED Decision 2003/13/RM

For design of tail skid and affected structure and empennage including balancing weight attachment, the tail skid load in a tail down landing (main landing gear free from ground) must be calculated as follows:

where:

P   =   tail skid load (N)

m  =   mass of the sailplane (kg)

g   =   acceleration of gravity (m/s2)

iy   =   radius of gyration of the sailplane (m)

L   =    distance between tail skid and sailplane c.g. (m)
