ED Decision 2003/13/RM
There are three types of ballast:
(a)Ā Ā Ā Ā fixed ballast intended for correcting a deficiency in the sailplaneās balance;
(b)Ā Ā Ā Ā expendable ballast which can be jettisoned in flight and which serves to increase the weight and consequently the speed of the sailplane; and
(c)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā removable ballast used to supplement the weight of an occupant and parachute (when lower than 70 kg) in order to keep the c.g. position within limits. This ballast can be adjusted before, but not during, flight.
